Emma Wilson, a sophomore at Huntington University in Indiana, joins DyeStat editor Erik Boal to recap winning the mile, 3,000 meters and distance medley relay March 3-5 at the NAIA Indoor Championships in Brookings, S.D., along with the women's 5-kilometer national title April 9 at the NAIA Cross Country Championships in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. Wilson reflects on returning to racing on the grass for the first time since November at Seminole Cross Country course, where she also competed in October. She reveals the decision to train through the race, with the focus remaining on her pursuit of securing the 10,000-meter qualifying time of 32:25 in order to compete in June at the Olympic Trials at Hayward Field in Eugene, Ore. Wilson revisits racing six times in two days at the NAIA Indoor Championships, and capping her schedule by teaming with Sydney Lambert, Amylia Ostopovich and Jessica Chojnacki to win the DMR crown in 11:56.94. She examines being one of two female athletes to win three titles at the national meet, and shares her respect for Leondra Correia of Indiana Tech, who captured the pentathlon, 60-meter hurdles and long jump championships, in addition to also earning All-America honors in the high jump and triple jump. Wilson also analyzes her 1,500 and 5,000 performances March 27 at the Yellow Jacket Collegiate Outdoor Invitational in Cedarville, Ohio, and her desire to eclipse the 16-minute barrier in the 5,000. She explains the challenges of finding a quality 10,000 race that will be paced properly to give her an opportunity to earn the Trials standard, in addition to preparing for the upcoming Crossroads League finals and NAIA Outdoor Championships, scheduled for May 26-28 in Gulf Shores, Ala. Wilson also speaks about the recent announcement of coach Lauren Johnson being named full-time cross country coach and the importance of the decision for the structure and consistency, as well as the future of the Foresters' program.
